Tehran (ISNA) - The International Energy Agency (IEA) in its latest report on the status of the global energy market said that Iran was the world’s third largest producer of natural gas in 2016.
The IEA in its report said Iran had produced 190 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas last year which it said was 5.3 percent of world’s total.
The agency in its report said the US and Russia were the leading gas producers over the same period adding that their outputs stood at 749 bcm (20.7 percent) and 644 bcm (17.7 percent), respectively.
The next top producers were Canada (174 bcm – 4.8 percent) and Qatar (165 bcm – 4.6 percent).
The IEA further in its report identified Iran as the world’s fifth producer of crude oil in 2016.Top on the list in the same category was Saudi Arabia followed by Russia, the US and Canada, Pakistan Observer reported.
On the same front, Iran’s total oil production in 2016 was 200 tonnes or 4.6 percent of a global total of 4,300 tonnes. Saudi Arabia was the leading producer with 583 tonnes (13.5 percent) followed by Russia (546 tonnes – 12.6 percent), the US (537 tonnes – 12.4 percent) and Canada (220 tonnes – 5.1 percent).
Elsewhere in its report, the IEA named the US, France, Russia and China as the world’s leading countries in terms of production of electricity from nuclear energy.
Iran is considered to have the world’s largest reserves of natural gas and its current production stands at around 660 million cubic meters per day. The country also has the world’s fourth largest oil reserves and its current output is believed to be above 3 million barrels per day.

Tehran (ISNA) - The Russian and Iranian interior ministries will share experience on countering extremism, terrorism and drug criminality, Russian interior ministry spokeswoman Irina Volk said.
Her remarks came after a meeting between Russian interior minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev and chief of the Law Enforcement Force of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Ashtari, TASS reported.
“When discussing areas of cooperation, the Russian minister noted prospects of sharing practical experience and information of mutual interest, chiefly on countering terrorism and extremist acts,” she reported.
They also discussed extension of cooperation in countering drug threat and carrying out coordinated investigative operations to suppress drug smuggling channels. Kolokoltsev named the “Channel – Western Screen” anti-drug operation held in May – June 2017 with Iranian partners as a successful example.
“Kolokoltsev stressed that signing of a joint action plant prepared to implement the cooperation agreement between the interior ministry of Russia and the interior ministry of the Islamic Republic of Iran will galvanize our work in some key areas,” Volk added.

Tehran (ISNA) - With $2 billion worth of imports from Iran between March 21 to June 21, Iraq is the second most important destination for Iranian goods, according to the latest statistics.
Iran commercial attaché in Baghdad Naser Behzad stated that value of Iran’s exports to Iraq had stood at over three billion dollars in the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21 to September 22).
“The 8-percent rise in exports to Iraq pertains to shipment of goods like agricultural products, machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical devises as well as pharmaceuticals,” he said.
“Other major items being deployed to the Iraqi market include pasta, flour, dairy products, petrochemical products as well as industrial lubricants,” Behzad added.
Iraq annually imports products worth 30 billion dollars from different countries, he said, adding that Iran’s share of the Iraqi imports stands at 24 percent which puts the country in third place of exporters to Iraq after China and Turkey.
He then pointed out that Iran for the first time ever has started exporting daily 12 million cubic meters of natural gas to Iraq this year.

Tehran (ISNA)-Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base has deployed new missile batteries to the western parts of the country to increase Iranian forces' preparedness to give a firm response to any possible act of aggression, a senior commander says.
“The Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base has taken this step to strengthen its air defense shield in the western areas and enhance its preparedness to give a decisive response to any act of aggression by dispatching new missile batteries,” deputy commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base for operations, Alireza Elhami, said on Tuesday.
He added that Iran’s air defense system continuously safeguarded security in the western parts of the country, particularly in border areas, by using different types of radar, missile, intelligence, communication and artillery equipment.
He noted that Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base, in line with its responsibilities, had provided an air defense umbrella over different maneuvers and exercises held by Iranian Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in western part of the country.
Elhami’s remarks came few days after the IRGC ground forces held heavy artillery fire drills, codenamed Moharram, in the country’s northwestern area.
The Hamzeh Seyyed al-Shohadah Base of the IRGC ground forces played the central part in the maneuvers.

Tehran (ISNA) - The women victims of terrorism called for strengthening international cooperation to reduce the problems of women affected by terrorism in the world in the 36th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.
Representatives of the Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism attended the 36th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council under the motto "Empowering Women Victims of Terrorism as a Necessity for the Future of Human Beings", and offered recommendations to UN mandate holders, representatives of states, human rights activists, and other NGOs.
The Association proposed some projects to the UN mandate holders to strengthen the role of the UN in protecting women affected by terrorism and emphasized the implementation of such proposals which were welcomed by the UN officials.
ADVT delegate held a side-event on "Empowering Women Victims of Terrorism" attended by experts from Spain, Britain, Cameroon and Iran. They analyzed and explained the situation of women affected by terrorism in the world and offered solutions.
"International law is still incomplete when it comes to protecting these women. During war times, the protection granted by the Geneva Conventions isn’t enough. Besides, terrorism is becoming more complex, so the international community should have a more dynamic approach to women’s protection from terrorism," one of the law professors said.
One of the prominent and impressive points raised at this side-event was the testimonies delivered by women victims of terrorism. One of the victims was Ms. Manijeh Safiyari who explained how she was affected by a terrorist act.
“I was a 17 year-old girl when I lost my right leg from up the knee in a bomb explosion by Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization in Tehran Bazaar. My mother who was with me was injured and is now disabled. At that age, while I had only one leg, I did my best to keep myself and my family calm and avoid isolation. I continued to study, started college and obtained a bachelor's degree, and now I drive with the left foot and go swimming. I also participated in sports events in the fields of discus throw, weightlifting, archery and shooting with a pistol, and at last, I joined the darts tournament, and in all of these fields I received a national title and a lot of medals," she said.
The session is now being held from 11 to 29 September for three weeks.

Tehran (ISNA) - The lawmakers of Iranian Parliament signed a statement condemning the Iraqi Kurdish independence referendum that was held by the region leader Masoud Barzani.
The 210 Iranian lawmakers condemned the Iraqi Kurdish referendum which reinforces the danger of the disintegration of Iraq which is struck by the war against the terrorists and the Takfiri Daesh terror group.
"The Iraqi people adopted the constitution and formed the central government in a democratic way and also cleared Iraq from ISIL’s presence with national unity. But conspiracies against Iraq have not ended and now the illegal referendum in Iraqi Kurdistan can damage this national unity and territorial integrity," according to the statement.
The statement added that the Iranian Parliament supports the measures of central government and parliament of Iraq.

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs Seyyed Abbas Araghchi emphasized that the global community will no longer tolerate nuclear-weapon states’ lack of commitment to denuclearization.
Araghchi made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing the United Nations General Assembly on the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.
He pointed at the United States in warning on Tuesday that a new nuclear arms race and new competition to modernize nuclear weapons are starting.
“But despite the cessation of the nuclear arms race for some years, recently we hear an alarming announcement by United States, a nuclear-weapon state that it intends to continuously strengthen and expand its nuclear arsenal to ensure its place at the top of the pack,” he said.
This was a clear reference to U.S. President Donald Trump's comment in February that "a dream would be that no country would have nukes, but if countries are going to have nukes, we're going to be at the top of the pack."
Araghchi called that statement "a clear indication of, and an explicit invitation to, the start of a new nuclear arms race."
He also warned about the plans of "almost all nuclear weapon possessors for the modernization of their nuclear weapon arsenals" as well as the development of mini-nukes "by a certain nuclear-weapon state." He said those are alarming trends that increase the danger of nuclear weapons being used.
The official has said that working towards the total purging of nuclear weapons is a “legal, political and moral responsibility” of every state.
“We need to take this responsibility responsibly and continue our collective efforts resolutely. On its part, Iran will continue to remain a strong supporter of nuclear disarmament,” he said.
Araghchi went on to add that nuclear-armed countries have been jeopardizing the Non-Proliferation Treaty by continued violations over the past almost 50 years.
“While nuclear-weapon states are primarily responsible for the elimination of their nuclear arsenals, the non-nuclear-weapon states shall not remain indifferent towards the 47-year non-compliance of nuclear-weapon states with their explicit nuclear disarmament obligations,” he added.
“Non-nuclear-weapon States need to contribute to the work of the United Nations high-level international conference on nuclear disarmament in 2018 and the Review Conference of the States Parties to the NPT in 2020 towards taking concrete actions to rectify this situation,” Iranian deputy foreign minister continued.

Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Mark Lowcock have held talks on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the latest status of Rohingya Muslims, humanitarian situation in Yemen and also humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people.

Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian defense minister General Amir Hatami met with Turkish ambassador to Tehran Hakan Tekin on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the two officials discussed bilateral cooperation and regional issues.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran is against any measure that results in the change of geographical boundaries and the disintegration of the countries of the region," General Hatami said, referring to the Iraqi Kurdish referendum on support for independence from Baghdad.
Hakan Tekin, for his part, hoped that the imminent visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Army Chief of Staff to Iran would lead to developing cooperation between the two countries which is in the interest of peace, stability and security in both countries and the region.
He also added that the unilateral decision of the officials of Kurdistan Regional Government by holding a referendum is worrying and will cause instability in the region.

Tehran (ISNA) - An oil refinery will be built in Syria with Iranian science, the chairman of the Iranian Oil Industry Research Center announced.
He pointed out that the capacity of this refinery will be 140 thousand barrels per day and at the beginning and in first phase this capacity will be 70 thousand barrels per day.
“The raw materials of this refinery, builds near the city of Homs, will be crude oil and light and heavy oil that will be supplied by Syria,” the official added.
This refinery will produce liquefied natural gas (LNG), gasoline, fuel oil, gas oil and white oil.
He went on to say that the construction of the refinery will be a consortium between Iran, Venezuela and Syria.

Pharmaceutical industry is one of the most profitable industries around the world. Iran is not an exception in this field. As we discussed in Iran ‘s pharmaceutical industry overview, the pharmaceutical industry in Iran is developing and now 96 percent of medicine consumption in Iran and also 50 percent of materials have been produced domestically and a lot of research and development plans are in progress not only to produce new medicines and help patients but also to show a more powerful presence in foreign markets and expand export capabilities. In order to meet these goals, major pharmaceutical holdings in Iran make admirable efforts to obtaining Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certificates for their factories and submitting in Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PICS). In this article, we will consider ten different pharmaceutical corporates in Iran which are working in different fields such as cardiovascular, antibiotics, gastrointestinal, antidiabetics medicines and etc. In the chart below, net profit margin for Osveh (DOSE1), AlborzDarou (DALZ1), KimiDarou (KIMI1), JaberEbne Hayan(DJBR1), SobhanDarou (DSBH1), Razak Labrotories (DRZK1), Zahravi (DZAH1), Abidipharma (ABDI1), Aburaihan (DABO1), Temad (TMVD1) is shown:
As you can see, net profit margin for pharmaceutical corporates is in the range of 20% to 40%. This margin shows a high potential in this industry for investors however there is a major challenge in this industry which needs to be considered. As you know, receivables collection period is an important financial index and is the approximate amount of time that it takes for a business to receive payments owed in terms of accounts receivable and as a result, receivables collection period is better for corporates to be low. In Iran and after implementing health reform plan, receivables collection period for pharmaceutical corporates goes up because they sell their products to governmental hospitals and can’t collect their receivables on time. This challenge resulted in liquidity problems for these corporates and they have to take more loans from banks and their interest expense to sale ratio has been increased. In the charts below, receivables collection period during 2014 to 2017 for corporates that mentioned above is shown:
If we look at the chart above, we find out that receivables collection period has doubled at least and even for some of them like Zahravi pharmaceutical Co. this ratio has reached up to one year. This increase in industry’s average should be considered as an alert because it can postpone corporates’ development plans and it makes medicine`s supply difficult in the country.
It should be mentioned that the government has taken good actions to improve the challenges that pharmaceutical corporates have faced. The government has issued Murabaha Sukuk in order to settle its debts with pharmaceutical corporates. These Sukuk are generally will mature in 4 years and their interest rate is almost 16%. Corporates can use these Sukuk in three ways: pay as tax, assign to suppliers and use as collateral in order to get loans with lower interest rate.
Although these actions may be good for the mid-term and postpone the challenges, it seems to be necessary to look for a major way in order to go out of this challenge. Definitely, by solving this problem, pharmaceutical industry will move more rapidly through horizons ahead.

TEHRAN, Sep. 27 (MNA) – Iran and Hungary voiced readiness for joint cooperation and investment on developing supply chain of chicken meat.
Deputy Agriculture Ministry for livestock productions Hassan Rokni said “with 2 million and 200 thousand ton annual production of chicken meat, Iran is among the top seven producers of the food in the world. Considering the region’s market and the neighboring countries’ demand, we intend to increase the production of chicken meat.” He made these remarks during his meeting with the head of Veterinary organization of Hungary.
Hassan Rokni stated that through joint cooperation and investments Iran and Hungary’s private sectors can produce chicken meat to export to the region’s market.
“85 percent of chicken producers in the world utilize supply chain as their system of organization while this figure in Iran is only 15 percent which needs improvement” he added.
Rokni also discussed exchanging knowledge and experience on turkey production as part of their bilateral cooperation and noted they intend to import turkeys from Hungary, provided they have controlled avian influenza.
Pointing to the low price of chicken production in Hungary, he further said this is an advantage compared to other European countries and helps to establish multinational companies.
The head of veterinary organization of Hungary, for his part, said avian influenza has been controlled in Hungary on August 24 and added “we are ready to sign new contracts on poultry trade with Iran.” He also stated there is no problems regarding the exchange of different races of turkey.
The Hungarian official further said at the moment, a company in their country is prepared to begin cooperation with Iran in the area of livestock.
