The international event is underway in North Ossetian State University in Vladikavkaz, the capital city of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, and will last for two days.
The conference aims to review cultural and historical ties as well as ways to develop trade relations between Iran and North Caucasus.
It is being held in two parts, featuring the historical-cultural and economic-commercial ties, with senior officials of the two countries in different political, economic and academic sectors in attendance.
The North Caucasus or Ciscaucasia is the northern part of the Caucasus region, and includes the Russian Republics of Dagestan, Chechnya, Ingushetia, Adygea, North Ossetia–Alania, Karachay, Cherkessia, Kabardino-Balkaria and Stavropol Krai.
The Muslim-majority region borders Georgia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
