“Iran and Russia can take advantage of the opportunity provided by Western sanctions against the two countries to take long steps for broadening and deepening inter-relations,” Jahangiri said on Thursday.
Iran's first vice-president enumerated areas such as oil, research, science and tourism as good opportunities for Tehran and Moscow to further expand their relations.
In relevant remarks in late March, Head of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture Gholamhossein Shafeyee underlined that Iranian businessmen can benefit from Russia's lucrative market.
Shafeyee underlined that Tehran and Moscow will use their currencies in trade exchanges between the two countries.
Also in March, Governor of Central Bank of Iran (CBI) said that two major banks of Russia were pursuing replacement of dollar with national currencies so that traders will settle transactions in rial and ruble.
“Gazprombank of Russia and Iran’s Bank Melli have agreed to open a joint account for using national currencies which will boost trade turnover and increase the volume of imports and exports," he added.
In relevant remarks in March, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underlined that Tehran and Moscow are determined to considerably boost their trade exchanges.
"Iran and Russia will increase the value of their trade balance to $10 billion," President Rouhani said after returning from his visit to Russia.
The Iranian president said that after the implementation of the nuclear deal, except for the banking issue, all the goals followed by Iran have been achieved.
Also in March, President Rouhani and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in a meeting in Moscow issued a joint statement to broaden mutual cooperation in various fields.
The 16-page joint statement themed 'Moving forward to Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation' covers vast areas of cooperation.
