During the meeting in the Pakistani capital today, Honardoust and Ahmed explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating of mutual cooperation in a bid to boost trade exchanges between the two countries.
The two sides also discussed Free Trade Agreement, resumption of banking channels, joint energy projects and launching direct flights between Iran and Pakistan.
Ahmed reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to enhance economic cooperation with neighboring Iran, and said that a high-level Pakistani economic delegation will pay a visit to Iran in the coming days to participate in the 20th Joint Economic Commission meeting.
She also said that since assuming charge as Iranian ambassador in December 2015, the Iranian ambassador has been very active to enhance economic ties between the two countries.
In relevant remarks in early February, Pakistani Ambassador to Iran Asif Khan Durrani voiced his satisfaction in the current trend of trade and diplomatic relations between Tehran and Islamabad.
"The relations between the two neighboring countries are progressing well," Durrani said.
He reiterated that Tehran and Islamabad have always stood by each other.
"We have a range of banking problems which are due to banks working with dollar; however, the problem is not restricted to Pakistan and the other countries face the same problem for banking transactions with Iran," Durrani added.
The ambassador expressed hope that the banking problem between Iran and Pakistan would be removed soon.
Also earlier in February, Head of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi in a meeting with Pakistani Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz in Islamabad underlined the need for increasing mutual cooperation in fighting international terrorism.
"We need to join hands to fight terrorist groups across the world," Boroujerdi said during the meeting.
The two neighboring countries should rely on their cultural, religious, historical and lingual commonalties, as good grounds to boost mutual ties far beyond normal relations maintained by two neighboring countries, he said.
During their meeting, the two sides underlined the need for developing all-out cooperation and expanding cooperation.
