During the conversation, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Shamkhani proposed the formation of an international independent committee which would investigate the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria's Idlib province.
"Taking into account the collection and subsequent elimination of Syria’s chemical weapons, which was conducted on Russia's initiative and under the UN supervision over the past years, the chemical attack in Idlib was definitely carried out by a third party in order to create a pretext for carrying out a military attack on Syria," Shamkhani said.
“Although the recent events in Syria have disrupted the process of fighting with terrorists but Iran, Russia and Syria will continue their strategic cooperation to eradicate terrorism,” he stressed.
Denouncing the US airstrike on Syria as a grave violation of fundamental principles of international law, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev said: “the attack is an aggression against a sovereign state which violates the US administration positions and reinforces terrorists”.
