Speaking to Shana, he reminded inking cooperation document between National Iranian Oil Company and Gazprom for studying the Cheshmeh-Khosh and Changuleh oil fields and said it is expected that the Russian side report the outcomes of its study to the Iranian side after six months.
He said Iran signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Russian Gazprom Company in order to increase the recovery rate from oil reservoirs.
"I am optimistic about cooperation with the Russian companies," the official added.
He noted that NIOC and Gazprom could sign Heads of Agreement after surveying the study results by Iranian experts.
Iran plans to increase recovery rate from Changuleh Oil Field by using EOR and IOR methods, Karimi added.
He said that increase of recovery rate from the Changuleh Oil Field can add 25 billion dollars to Iran’s oil revenues.
There are also other companies which have signed Memoranda of Understanding with the NIOC for development of the Cheshmeh-Khosh and Changuleh oilfields and Iran will sign the final deal with companies which provide the best technical and economic offers, Karimi added.
He noted that Russian companies are highly qualified from technical and technological aspects.
Karimi said that Iran is in talks with foreign companies for development of its oil and gas fields and it is expected to sign several HOAs with them till the end of this Iranian calendar year (started March 20, 2016).
NIOC and Russia Gazprom Company signed an MoU for cooperation in study of the two oilfields of Cheshme Khosh and Changuleh by the Russian company.
Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh and Russian Minister of Energy Alexander Novak were present in the signing ceremony.
Managing director of Iran Central Oil Fields Company signed the deal on behalf of the NIOC with Managing Director of Gazprom Neft Company Alexander Dyukov.
Changuleh oil field is in Ilam Province, 50 kms southeast of Mehran city and 10 to 15 kms from Iran-Iraq border line. It lies on the northern margins of Dezful and between Dehloran and Azar oil fields.
Cheshme Khosh also in Dasht Abbas in Ilam province, 52 kms from south of Dehloran city and 70 kms west of Andimeshk city. The operations for exploitation of the field started in 1975 and is run by the ICOFC.
Prior to signing the MoU, Zangeneh said in a meeting with Novak that once the deal is signed, number of the fields whose study has been entrusted to Russian companies will reach seven and consequently, Russia will reserve maximum share in study of Iranian oil fields.
