"We will deliver first ATR 72-600 to Iran Air very soon," the ATR wrote on its Twitter account.
In relevant remarks last week, Iranian Deputy Transportation Minister Asqar Fakhriyeh Kashan announced that Iran's national flag carrier, Iran Air, has signed a contract with the French-Italian ATR company to purchase 20 passenger planes.
"The Iran Air contract with the ATR company to buy 20 ATR 72-600 was inked by officials of both countries," Fakhriyeh Kashan said.
Iranian Road and Urban Development Minister Abbas Akhoundi announced in February that his ministry and the world's leading turboprop manufacturer ATR are in the final stages of a passenger plane deal.
"Negotiations for the purchase of aircraft from ATR have reached the final stage and at the moment, the two sides are at the stage of exchanging documents," Akhoundi said.
Based on the contract Iran is to buy 20 ATR 72-600 valued at $400 million to be used in short distance flights.
The deal was first signed in February 2016 in Tehran following the commercial discussions held in Rome and Paris during visit of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani Akhoundi to those countries.
On January 11, French Airbus delivered the first plane to Iran under the deal between Iran and Airbus to purchase 100 passenger planes from the French manufacturer of civil aircraft.
Airbus sealed a contract with Iran Air in December to sell 100 of its passenger planes, worth over $18 billion.
ATR is co-owned by France’s Airbus and Italy’s Leonardo. The ATR 72-600 aircraft is capable of carrying 74 passengers.
ATR spokesman has recently said the company will give aid to Iran Air to develop its domestic air transport, Fly Orbit News reported.
ATR also announced that some 9 ATR 72-600 aircraft will be delivered to Iran in 2017 and 11 others will be given in 2018.
In addition to ATR planes, Iran Air and Iran's Aseman Airlines have inked the contract to buy 110 Boeing and 80 Airbus.
