"Long-term cooperation with Ashgabat is on Tehran’s agenda," Zarif said during the meeting with Meredow in the Turkmen capital on Monday.
He reiterated Iran was the first country to recognize the newly-independent republics and it is a great honor for the Islamic Republic to have been standing by the nation and government of Turkmenistan for the last 25 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties.
The Iranian foreign minister noted that Iran is a reliable partner, and said, "We will pursue our long-term cooperation such as the agreement between Iran, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Oman to establish a transit route which has also been welcomed by India."
In relevant remarks on Monday, Zarif and Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow in a meeting in Ashgabat underlined the need for the expansion of mutual cooperation in different fields.
Zarif and President Berdimuhamedow explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating bilateral relations.
The Iranian foreign minister and the Turkmen president also discussed regional developments during their meeting.
